Thailand: New Economics Party leader denies that party will back PPRP

• New Economics (NE) Party leader Mingkwan Sangsuwan clarified on 13 Mar 19 that he had never spoken on politics with the PPRP no bargained for any political posts, following reports that the PPRP had successfully attained more than 250MPs’ support to form the next government following Mingkwan’s agreement to support their group.
• In response to Mingkwan’s statement, key Pheu Thai figures expressed confidence that he would not betray them as the party had promised his supporters that they would not support the military.
• Although NE forms part of the Pheu-Thai led bloc based on unofficial poll results, the absence of the party’s key leaders casted doubts on which side NE was planning to side with.
