Malaysia: Muhyiddin-aligned Bersatu leaders say top meeting approved leaving Pakatan

  • 27 Bersatu supreme council members and state chiefs have rebutted party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s claim that the council never approved the decision to leave Pakatan Harapan (PH).
  • In their joint statement, 20 council members, some of whom are also state chiefs, and seven other state chiefs, said the decision was made at the supreme council meeting on 23 Feb 20.
  • The 20 supreme council members who endorsed the statement do not include those aligned to Dr Mahathir, such as youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir and A. Kadir Jasin.
  • There are 28 supreme council members according to Bersatu’s website, including Dr Mahathir and party president Muhyiddin Yassin, who did not sign the statement.
