UMNO corruption trials postponed under current lockdown

  • Legal proceedings implicating prolific UMNO figures have been postponed following the 2-week total lockdown implemented nationwide on 1 Jun 21. These include the trials of UMNO president Ahmad Zahid and former prime minister Najib Razak’s wife Rosmah Mansor.
  • Zahid’s trial on 40 corruption charges in connection with the Foreign Visa System (VLN) scheduled at the High Court in Shah Alam was postponed to 15 Jun 21 due to the lockdown. The trial was initially scheduled to proceed for three days this week.
  • Meanwhile, the hearing of Rosmah Mansor’s bid to nullify her MYR1.25bn solar hybrid project corruption trial and to disqualify Gopal Sri Ram as the lead prosecutor in the case has been postponed to 17 Jun 21.
  • The hearing was supposed to have taken place on 3 Jun 21. The 15 and 16 Jun 21 dates fixed to hear Rosmah’s defence have also been postponed.
