- Thailand’s Pheu Thai Party has joined hands with the conservative Bhumjaithai, the third-largest party in the country’s lower house, to form a new government after it split from the progressive Move Forward Party.
- “The objective is for the country to move forward with the least obstacle possible,” Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul said at a joint press conference with Pheu Thai on Monday, announcing the new coalition.
- Cholnan said Pheu Thai would not invite the United Thai Nation or Palang Pracharath parties to join the coalition but welcomed their MPs to vote for a Pheu Thai prime minister. The two parties are associated with Prayuth Chan-ocha and Prawit Wongsuwan, the generals who have been prime minister and deputy prime minister for nine years.
