Thailand: Plan to ease Suvarnabhumi airport traffic

  • The Department of Rural Roads (DRR) plans to spend almost THB2bn buying land for a new road to reduce traffic congestion around Suvarnabhumi Airport.
  • DRR director-general Pathom Chaloeywares said on 17 Feb 21 his department had proposed a series of public hearings involving various agencies and local communities and most of those affected were in favour.
  • He said the DRR was already preparing a draft decree on land expropriation to pave the way for the construction of the new 19km road.
  • Mr Pathom said the road would alleviate traffic jams on the highway, which is used by freight trucks to distribution centres in and around the airport.
