PKS, Democratic Party criticize job-creation regulation

• Two opposition parties in the House of Representatives, PKS and the Democratic Party, criticized the government’s issuance of a regulation-in-lieu-of-law (perppu) on job creation.
• “Perppu No. 2/2022 is a constitutional disaster, as it could hurt our democracy and undermine the hierarchy of the law in this country,” said Ledia Hanifa Amaliah, the secretary of the PKS faction at the House.
• Democrat politician Herzaky Putra questioned the government’s rationale of an economic slowdown, saying that it contradicted the government’s earlier “bragging” of its economic achievements.
• The Perppu must be passed by the House by the end of its next session to become permanent legislation.
