KMT’s Hou-Jaw ticket calls election a choice between war and peace

• The newly formed Kuomintang (KMT) presidential ticket, led by Hou Yu-ih and running mate Jaw Shau-kong, has reiterated the party’s longstanding warning to voters that choosing either the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) or the KMT in the upcoming presidential race is a decision between war or peace.
• The KMT candidates asserted that if the DPP’s candidate, Vice President Lai Ching-te, wins the elections, it could lead to conflict with China. On the other hand, Hou and Jaw positioned themselves as defenders of cross-strait stability.
• Lai, known for his past support for Taiwan independence, has shifted his stance, affirming Taiwan’s sovereignty while expressing a commitment to cross-strait peace.
