Indonesia: KPK rejects House invitation to attend hearing – 20 Sep 2017

  • The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has rejected an invitation from the House of Representatives inquiry team to attend a hearing against the anti-graft body.
  • KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said on 20 Sep 17 that the commission respected the House and its authority; however, considering several legal aspects as cited in the 1945 Constitution, the 2014 Law on Legislative Institutions ( MD3 ) and House codes of conduct, the KPK could not fulfill the request.
  • “We gave our explanations and answers during a previous hearing with the House Commission III [on human rights, security and legal affairs]. They included [KPK] responses to the inquiry team’s findings,” Febri said.
  • As reported earlier, the House’s inquiry team invited KPK commissioners to attend a hearing on 18 Sep 17 to assess findings of its investigation before it planned to reveal them in a House plenary meeting at the end of Sep 17.
  • The team claimed it found irregularities in the management of KPK financial and human resources and violations of procedures in its anti-corruption operations.
