Chinese chipmakers urge Beijing to do more amid tension with U.S.

  • As the U.S. continues to tighten its export controls on semiconductors to China, domestic chip companies are calling upon Beijing for more support and urged the two sides to enhance communication to avoid making the situation even worse.
  • China’s Ministry of Commerce hosted a meeting last week with key domestic semiconductor companies to discuss the impact of the restrictive measures imposed by the U.S. and its allies. The participating firms called on the government to take more effective measures to deal with the situation.
  • The U.S. semiconductor export controls on China affect the entire supply chain from design, manufacturing and equipment to materials, with a number of firms pointing out during the meeting with the Ministry of Commerce that these measures have resulted in significant uncertainty and harm to various stages of the supply chain, Caixin has learned.
