China’s Fujian implements Taiwan policies

  • China’s Fujian Province has initiated 15 economic measures aimed at Taiwanese residents as part of its broader strategy to foster pro-Beijing sentiments ahead of the January 13 elections. These measures, part of the “21 measures” announced in September, include enhanced agricultural loans, a patent scheme for businesses in designated regions, rent waivers, and housing subsidies for start-ups.
  • The Mainland Affairs Council views these measures as part of China’s integration plan, attempting to bring Taiwanese entities under its legal and institutional control.
  • However, doubts persist regarding Beijing’s ability to fulfill economic promises, given its economic challenges such as a collapsing housing market and financial sector risks.
